Description: Providing a real-world experience with open-ended opportunities allows students to learn how to learn while fostering critical thinking skills. Project-Based Learning encompasses this inquiry-based experience and allows for the development of 21st-century skills, the cultivation of student voice and choice, and the opportunity for reflection and revision.
Participants will: explore some PBL activities; understand guidelines for the development of technology-infused PBL; create a PBL experience that is customized to the school/classroom; create assessment rubrics that correlate with PBL. A website of all referenced resources will be provided at the workshop. Please bring your own device (BYOD) laptop or Chromebook.
Presenter: Jamie Meola Saponaro
Jamie Meola Saponaro is a former elementary and middle school teacher, having taught in Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey. After teaching for eight years, she became a District Technology Coordinator. Jamie is currently an instructional strategies consultant and educational technology trainer providing professional development through coaching, mentoring, and presenting to New Jersey teachers. Her graduate work has been focused on curriculum and instruction, educational technology, and supervision. She is also the author of the book Creative Projects Using Popular Computer Applications.
