May 15th Vendor Expo Featured on ESCNJ's 'Better Together' Podcast

Better Together Podcast A chance to examine the many products and services offered through the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey’s (ESCNJ) Co-op Pricing System, and earn Continuing Education Unit credits, occurs again at the 7th Annual “Vendor Expo” on May 15, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the New Jersey Convention   Exposition Center in Edison. There is no charge for current and prospective Co-op Pricing System members to attend the Vendor Expo.


Taxpayer savings and less staff time taken up writing proposals and bid specifications, are why East Brunswick Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Victor Valeski believes membership in the Co-op Pricing System benefits his district.


Dr. Valeski made his comments on the ESCNJ’s Better Together podcast 1E716D4A99E3&RenderLoc=0&FlexDataID=12005&PageID=9 hosted by Coordinator of Communications David Sandler.


The Co-op Pricing System was founded in the early 1990s with about 60 school districts, whose collective buying power resulted in reduced costs on gasoline and paper purchases, said ESCNJ Business Administrator Patrick M. Moran.


The Co-op has grown considerably over the years to include virtually every school district in New Jersey, and about 300 municipalities, colleges, housing authorities, libraries, and other public agencies. Co-op membership is free, and participants are under no obligation to purchase any products or services.


The collective buying power of the Co-op Pricing System saves state taxpayers approximately $25 million annually, said Mr. Moran. 


“We have grown to over 1,250 members who spend less tax dollars on items ranging from security equipment and office furniture, to custodial supplies, gym flooring, busses, tractors, and many other goods and services,” Mr. Moran said.


The time saved by Co-op members, no longer forced to deal with complex bid specifications, or pay advertising fees and legal costs, result in additional savings.


 “Conservatively speaking, we save taxpayers $15-$20 million a year in human costs, which opens up time for staff to address other responsibilities,” said Mr. Moran.


Dr. Valeski agreed, noting that a typical Request for Proposal would usually take 45-60 days to process.


 “Co-op membership takes the legwork out of the equation,” Dr. Valeski said.


 “The ease of acquisition, the assurance that our purchases comply with state laws and regulations, and knowing the products are the most competitively priced, are great benefits,” said Dr. Valeski, who also serves on ESCNJ’s Board of Directors.

“Co-op membership and participating in the Vendor Expo has helped us build relationships with more people, and genuinely understand which products are going to best meet their needs,” said Mr. Keretesz.
