PISCATAWAY -- In preparation for the move to their new home on April 29th, Future Foundations Academy (FFA) staff were trained on the Teq Corporation’s SMART Learning Suite, a “cloud based workspace” that will be in each classroom.

Located on the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey’s (ESCNJ) Piscataway Campus, the new 55,000 square foot FFA facility is for students ages 13-21 with Autism spectrum disorders.

“The new building gives us the room to fully prepare higher functioning students with Autism spectrum disorders for the workplace, and independent living skills to the fullest extent possible,” said Superintendent Mark J. Finkelstein.

According to Teq Senior Account Executive Allan Simon, the SMART Learning Suite is a powerful learning software tool combining lesson delivery, assessment and student collaboration features.

The new FFA includes: 12 classrooms; dedicated space for Horticultural, Culinary, Community-based Instruction and Family Living programs; a Makerspace for collaborative projects; Lucy’s Café; a full size gymnasium, and a fitness center.

Approximately 8,000 square feet in the new facility is designated for ESCNJ’s Professional Development Academy (PDA), which will relocate from its Media Center location in September. The PDA will have a separate entrance, and a 300-seat capacity (which can be reconfigured for smaller meetings), contemporary lighting and sound system, and plasma screens.

The FFA is one of six schools operated by the ESCNJ for student’s ages 3-21 with Autism spectrum disorders, multiple disabilities, and at-risk behaviors. The largest Educational Services Commission in New Jersey, the ESCNJ offers support services to schools statewide, coordinates transportation services for over 12,000 students, and manages a 1,250 member Co-op Pricing System, the largest cooperative buying program in New Jersey.
